PERSONALISED AND BESPOKE TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS IN THE KINGDOM OF BHUTAN

Trans Bhutan Trail

Trans Bhutan Trail

For over 500 years a network of trails connected various regions of the country. Besides the trail contributing in unifying the country and repelling invaders in the medieval times these routes served as a vital conduit for pilgrims, messengers, trade, scholars and travelers

Once Bhutan embarked on the road to modernization the trails were replaced with national highways in the 60s, this development had relegated most of these trails to neglect and remained forgotten for many years.  Upon the royal command of His Majesty the King in 2018, the Trans Bhutan Trail restoration project was initiated and just recently the trail that links our past with the present and future has been restored to its former glory allowing locals and visitors to tread in the footsteps of our ancestors. The Bhutan Canada foundation led the project supported by communities along the trail, the guardians of peace volunteers as well as furloughed tourism workers during the global covid 19 pandemic. For the first time in 60 years, the Trans Bhutan Trail has now been re-opened to travelers this year.

The 402 km trail connects Haa in the west to Tashigang in the east, the trail network spans the breadth of the country across 9 districts, 28 local administrations, 2 municipalities, one national park, and over 400 historic and cultural sites. Travelers will be able to traverse the 18 major bridges, climb 10000 stairs and immerse in the scenic beauty of mother nature.

Although it is expected to take about a month to complete the entire trail, we also have ample fully guided and supported options available to enjoy shorter segments of the trail ranging from a half day walk to seven days programs, or even more. We are now ready to welcome nature lovers, adventurers, thrill seekers, mountain bikers, photographers and birdwatchers to enjoy this amazing experience in our part of the Himalayas.
