Sustainable Development Fee | SDF

Sustainable Development Fee | SDF

Bhutan is known for its unique approach to tourism, which includes the implementation of a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) or also commonly referred to as the "Tourism Levy." The SDF is an essential component of Bhutan's policy to promote sustainable tourism and protect its cultural heritage and environment.

Since we first opened our doors to tourism in 1974, guests have played an integral role in the countrys growth. The SDF is a way that visitors support Bhutans ongoing development and sustainability projects. Collected by the national exchequer, the funds raised through the SDF are allocated to various projects that enhance facilities, services and infrastructure for Bhutanese nationals and visitors, as well as funding free healthcare, education and up-skilling the tourism sector. The funds also contribute to the preservation of our nations rich cultural heritage and pristine environment, by funding conservation, preservation and other sustainability initiatives that supports the attainment of UN sustainable development goals. The mandatory SDF of US$100/Person/Night is applied on a nightly basis.

In this way, your travel directly benefits everyone in Bhutan, and adds to our Gross National Happiness. We appreciate your contribution towards our development goals, and would like to thank you for your support to Bhutan and our Planet.
