Paro International Airport
Paro International Airport (PBH) is the only international airport in Bhutan, located in the Paro Valley at an elevation of 2235meters (7330 ft) above sea level. The airport is located just 1 kilometer away from the centre of Paro Valley.
Paro Int’l Airport has only one runway, which measures 2.165 kilometers (7145ft) in length and is one of the shortest runways in the world. Because of its location, the approach to the airport requires skilled pilots and flight operations are only possible during the daylight hours owing to the visual flight rules. Only a select number of qualified pilots are certified to land at the airport.
Paro International Airport is one of the most beautiful airports in the world, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan mountains. It serves as the gateway to Bhutan, one of the most peaceful and isolated countries in the world, and is a vital connection for tourists and locals alike. Paro international Airport is assigned the IATA airport code PBH and ICAO code VQPR.
Over the course of the pandemic, Bhutanese artists participated in the work to transform/facelift the Paro Airport, supported by the Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority. The work at the airport began following Royal Command that the Paro Airport, as one of the most important gateways into Bhutan, should reflect the country’s art, architecture and beauty, and also serve to showcase the works of Bhutanese artists. Over 70 Bhutanese artists have contributed their works to be displayed in the airport. The transformation also includes installations, gardens and murals.
The national carrier Druk Air and privately owned Bhutan airlines is based out of PBH. These airlines link Bhutan to the hubs of Singapore, Bangkok, New Delhi, Kolkota and Kathmandu Our beautiful airport will serve as the point of entry and exit for your trip to Bhutan.
